Ron had help from an old-timer, Santa Ana College assistant coach Ed Caruthers (who in a former life pushed Dick Fosbury to Olympic gold at Mexico City. Ed won the silver at the 1968 Games at Caruthers missed and captured the silver at 7-3½.
